5 Tips for Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival

Posted by David L. Clarke | May 30, 2018 | 0 Comments

Every June, residents from surrounding states come to join in the festivities of Bonnaroo music and arts festival. To help you stay safe and have a fun festival experience, we've come up with 5 general tips for Bonnaroo.

Tip #1: Stay Hydrated.

Whether you are camping for the entire weekend or driving each day, you are going to spend the majority of your time in the hot sun, surrounded by thousands of other attendees. Do yourself a favor and stay hydrated. Bring more water than you think you need, and freeze some so it stays cool. This can prevent you from fainting during your favorite act and save you from a miserable trip to the E.R.

Tip #2. Use Sunscreen.

The weather at Bonnaroo typically involves a lot of sunshine. Save yourself from a painful sunburn, and use sunscreen. Look for a high-SPF, sweat-resistant option that can be applied to your face. Use it consistently and excessively to maximize its effectiveness.

Tip #3. Bring Tecnu.

Walking around Bonnaroo, especially at night, can be treacherous; a number of plants are not friendly for human skin, including poison ivy. Tecnu is the perfect preventative. Available at your local pharmacy, Tecnu is a scrub that removes poison ivy and poison oak oil from your skin. Instead of having to leave the festival and receive treatment for your itchy rash, use this scrub and keep the festivities going.

Tip #4. If You Are Camping, Get a Silver Tarp and a Balloon.

These items may seem odd, but they can significantly help your overall experience at Bonnaroo. If you plan on camping, you will want to maximize your sleep and regulate the temperature of your tent. Buy a silver tarp and set it up above the roof of your tent. This will reflect the rising sun and help keep you cooler the first few hours of the day.

Additionally, attach a balloon or flag to the top of your tent. At the end of a long festival lineup, you may feel tired and want to get back to your tent as soon as possible. A balloon will help you find your tent much faster, and keep you from wandering around thousands of similar setups.

Tip #4. Fill Your Gas Tank Within 20 Miles of the Festival.

Festival-goers travel to Bonnaroo on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, even after the events have already begun. Most of the 80,000+ attendees leave after the final concert, which means you could end up waiting hours before reaching a gas station. Although it may take time to get your gas tank filled upon arrival, it can save you hours in the long run. Plus, should an emergency require you to leave early, you don't have to worry about immediately stopping to fill up your gas tank.

Tip #5. Remember, Marijuana Is Still Illegal in Tennessee.

Although certain states have legalized the recreational use of marijuana, Tennessee still recognizes it as an illegal, controlled substance. If you are caught and charged with a marijuana-related offense at Bonnaroo, you could face up to 12 months in prison and a fine of up to $500.

Local police officers increase their efforts in and around the festival, so it is important to be aware of your speed and your behavior. If you have a question concerning what is and isn't legal in Tennessee, contact a local criminal defense lawyer.
